Story 1: Local Gun Stores
When Walmart made the decision to stop selling certain types of handguns and ammunition, I wanted to look the effect on local guns stores in Murfreesboro. I talked with several gun store owners to get their views on the decision and whether or not it would be effective.
Story 2: Historic Preservation
The news of a 150-year-old grave-site being bulldozed by developers came to me when I was attending a Rutherford County Historic Society meeting. Being passionate about historic preservation, I wanted to not only recount the situation surrounding the Warren Cemetery off of I-24, but also about the relationship between historic preservationists and developers in Murfreesboro.
Story 3: Public Art
Like many other growing cities, such as Nashville and Franklin, Murfreesboro is seeing more public art on display around the downtown area. The trend is more than just something for people to enjoy; it brings in revenue, tourism, and young professionals.
Story 4: Neal's Paymaster Corn
William Haskell Neal of Lebanon was an ordinary farmer who developed a type of corn breed that brought in nearly $2 million of agricultural revenue to Tennessee by the time of the Great Depression. I wanted to take a look at what he did, what his descendants are doing today, and why he has become a forgotten legend.
