Should We Kill the Leader?
The Nashville Shakespeare Festival performed Julius Caesar at MTSU to offer an answer.
The Nashville Shakespeare Festival, which began over 30 years ago, helps make the complex plots of Shakespeare’s plays accessible to a wide audience around the Middle Tennessee area. They came to MTSU’s Tucker Theater to perform Julius Caesar, one of Shakespeare’s most famous and influential plays about the overthrow of a powerful ruler. Through all the blood and tears that bathe the stage in tragedy, the company presented a complex plot that comments on today’s political climate. The play offers a different approach for college-age students to analyze today’s world through a classic presentation by one of the world’s most famous playwrights. However, the production is not effortless. It takes a team performers, both in front and behind the curtain, to make the over 400 year-old play come together into a captivating performance full of laughter, action, and tragedy.
